The Quinte West Computer Club has been in the Quinte region for quite a long time. The name Quinte West Computer Club was not named that back when it first began. The meetings began sometime in the area of 1984-1986. At this point it was held at CFB Trenton. There were a large number of members that were apart of the club, but the decision to make the club military members only, the club was then forked. The civilian portion of the club split and became the Commodore Computer Club. The majority of the members were Commodore users, thus why the club was named such. The Commodore Computer Club was held at the Dufferin Center for many years. We attended every other week in one of the many rooms that were available. As time moved on, many of the members moved into the Commodore-Amiga line of computers. Unfortunately this building no longer stands. Many great years were spent at this location.
Our Next Location
The club then decided on our second location, Marmara Street School, Trenton, Ontario. At this time the members were 100% Amiga users. For approximately 5 years, the members gathered here. The members began digging into the Windows operating system at this point. Until sadly, we had to leave this location as well.
Where to go?
Once we were moved out of the Marmara Street School location, we really didn't have anywhere where we could host the meetings. This is where the club president offered to host the meetings at his home in Glen Miller. For years the meeting was held in the living / computer room of Garry Fulford's home. With the advent of the internet, our increase dependance on it grew. Unfortunately the home of Garry's was not in a serviceable area for broadband high speed. Scott and Kristen both offered to have the meetings hosted in downtown Trenton at their home where high speed internet was plentiful for all to use.
